It all started with googling "nerdy baby clothing" for our baby girl...
My wife and I play World of Warcraft together most nights...
We play in a weekly game of Dungeons & Dragons with almost of dozen of our friends...
We have caught them all, hosted Lord of the Ring & Harry Potter movie nights...
Poor Girl never stood a chance.
Needless to say, nerd culture has been an impactful part of our families life, and something that my husband and I were very much hoping to share with our daughter (my husband has, more than once, brought up enrolling Quinn in coding camp when she turns 5). It was quite disheartening when numerous searches for nerdy baby clothing returned very little aside from some mainstream marvel or DC onesies or toddler shirts.
I reached out to my mother-in-law to help take some fabrics I found online to make some "nerdy" dresses for Quinn, but that was just the foundation of this story.
Bamboo clothing helps our daughters skin
At around the 6 month mark, my husband and I started noticing numerous rashes popping up on our daughter.
It got so bad that we had to take her to the doctor, who couldn't even get a good look at her because of how inflamed some of the patches were. To give our daughter some relief, her doctor prescribed some special lotion. We were told to put it on Quinn after every changing, and before she went to bed. On top of that he recommended that we give her a bath daily with some special soap to help alleviate some of the inflimation.
To say that I was scared for my baby girl would have been an understatement. I felt like my we had done something wrong or missed something we should have noticed sooner. My worrying led to numerous googling sessions where I saw that bamboo clothing had been shown to be very good for babies & toddlers that had sensitive skin or eczema.
I'll be honest, I was desperate to help my daughter so I started purchasing bamboo zippies hoping that it would help.
I won't pretend to know if it was just the bamboo clothing, or the medical lotion, or if she just outgrew the skin issues, but through a mix of a special bath, medical lotions, bamboo clothing, and time our daughters skin issues cleared up.
The genesis of Nerdy Baby Clothing Co
For almost a year my husband had been nagging his mother and I that a baby clothing business that focused on "nerdy" culture would be successful.
After Quinn's skin issues cleared up, I became an active member in several bamboo mom groups on Facebook.
The final lego brick was the fact that my husband had always wanted to start a business of his own, and we both wanted something to work on together that was more than just playing World of Warcraft together.
The next day, in early July of 2022, we started the process of building our business, and creating our first collection of bamboo clothing - Science Is The New Cool.
It has been an exciting enterprise that my entire family has joined, and I cannot wait to see how Nerdy Baby Clothing Co grows.
